When you browse the Familia Osorio page, you only find single-origin coffees, but what does single-origin really mean?

As with many other terms in specialty coffee, there is no universal definition of single-origin coffee. Over the years, at Familia Osorio, we have determined that single-origin coffees must be traceable to the producer and/or lot for the most exclusive coffees.

We can identify this data in the technical sheets and labels of our coffees:

  • Country
  • Region
  • Farm or Producer name
  • A specific plot or lot on a farm (such as micro or nano-lots, depending on size)

Consequently, these coffees have differentiated flavor profiles, are more expressive of the terroir where they were grown, the variety, and the processing. The term terroir plays a fundamental role, encompassing all factors that contribute to coffee flavors, such as:

  • Altitude
  • Soil quality and composition
  • Climatic conditions
  • Organisms living or growing in, on, and around coffee farms
