Currently, Rwanda's coffee industry produces exceptional coffees. The path has clearly not been easy, but through the leadership of a committed government, educational projects, and strategic planning, a solid foundation for this success has been laid. Today, approximately 420,000 people are directly or indirectly involved in the coffee industry. Prices for quality coffee are more stable than those for commercial coffee, which has improved the quality of life for many coffee farmers and their families. Furthermore, coffee also contributes to the reconciliation of the main ethnic groups: Hutus and Tutsis; as we have seen them working together, shoulder to shoulder, to produce more and better coffee.
THE CAR WASH STATION
The Shyira washing station was built in 2017. It is located halfway to Kigali in the famous Virunga Mountains, which are also home to one of the few remaining groups of mountain gorillas, in the Nyabihu district of northern Rwanda. Shyira is the station that produces the highest-altitude coffee in Rwanda, at over 1,850 meters above sea level. Furthermore, the climatic conditions and soil type make this washing station an ideal setting for processing and producing high-quality coffee.
