LOT HISTORY
Neftali Castro, originally from Cajamarca, is the youngest of seven siblings and the only one who works alongside his parents, Neftali Castro and Virgelina Velasquez, on the farm. He holds a degree in Coffee Administration and Agricultural Technology from the University of Tolima. After working as an administrator on public projects elsewhere, he returned to Cajamarca in March 2017 to join his father in cultivating specialty coffee. In 2019, he earned a prestigious award in the Cup of Excellence competition, and in 2011 he further improved his ranking by placing third. Neftali is convinced that quality, achieved through working with diverse varieties, can be fundamental to achieving true sustainability in coffee production.
Tolima is recognized as the fourth most important coffee-growing region, after the Coffee Axis (Armenia, Risaralda, and Caldas), Huila, and Antioquia. However, when considered by department, Tolima ranks third, after Huila and Antioquia.
